Divorce Financial Analysis
Since 1997, I have specialized in assisting over 400 individuals and couples navigate the financial aspects of divorce or dissolution. My work supports and complements the legal process, but cannot replace the necessity for legal advice. My training and practice as a Certified Financial Planner™, ongoing training in specific areas of divorce financial analysis, mastery of specialized planning tools, understanding of local divorce laws, and training in areas such as mediation and collaborative divorce techniques qualify me to add a layer of financial expertise to help clients better understand the financial ramifications of a settlement.
I can provide the following assistance in the divorce process:
Pre-Divorce
-
Gathering data, including information regarding assets, liabilities, and historical budgets.
- Education regarding the tax implications of splitting various assets, investments, pension plans, and insurance issues.
- Clarification of financial goals and priorities.
During Divorce
-
Estimation of the after-tax cash flow of various spousal and child support recommendations.
- Creating long-term projections of the estimated outcomes of various support levels and asset divisions.
- Clarification of the financial issues involved in deciding how to divide assets (for example, house equity versus retirement money or brokerage accounts).
Post Divorce
- Assistance in making decisions about and processing the paperwork for transferring various retirement accounts.
- If desired, referrals and transitional assistance to investment managers, insurance agents, and accountants.
- Education and support in developing personal financial skills and systems.
- Empowerment to take control of your new financial life.
Fees are hourly. My work complies with the Code of Ethics of the Institute of Divorce Financial Analysts and my continuing education requirements are current.
